Back in the Studio!

Just like that the snow is gone and we are back to the Center this Tuesday. Carol has that group of new Students that she is shepherding along the ins and outs of warp winding and loom dressing.
I wasn't in the studio today to grab ambiant pictures so let's go straight to Show and Tell! Linda brought in the waffle weave towel she had finshed and Marie (at least I think it is Marie) brought in a scarf.
Pat emptied a couple of looms at home this week and brought in a couple of pieces.
Diana had a towel for Show and Tell today and there is another towel that I do not know the name of the weaver, but it is lovely!
That is all for today, until next week this is Tina, for all.

Another Snow Day

In East TN, we do get snow almost every year and many years we see snow a couple of times over the winter. Usually, the snow is all gone within a day or two. This time though, we had unusually low temps, not getting above freezing the whole week. The schools all over the area are once again closed, for the most part it is because the buses are still not able to pick up the kids to go to school. We follow the local school schedule, so once again we will not be at the Center today. I asked for the weavers to send me photos of what they have been doing this week, and they did! Patty sent me pictures of a couple of rugs she had finished this week, and Barbara sent me a picture of a warp she had wound for her new loom, a towel she had finished and she left the next towel for Laura to weave next week. She also sent me a picture of what happens when you lose your way with a warp!
Linda sent me a picture of a waffle weave towel she finished and washed this week, and Pat sent me a couple of photos of a gamp she is working on.
Mark sent in a picture of a scarf he had made for a friend of his. I did not do any weaving this week, but I sure did make some good bread, english muffins and bagels!
We have rain in the forcast and warmer than usual temps, so you can be sure we will be flocking to the Center next Tuesday! That is all for today, until next week, Tina for all

Snow day!

We had a good bit of snow at my house and all around the area north of I-40. South of I-40 was not hit as hard with snow but took a good bit of rain, sleet and a bit of snow. I took 2 pictures of my barn to show you, one picture is from yesterday early afternoon and the other picture is from this afternoon. We got 8.5 inches here, which put me in the mood to bake! After I dug out to the barn, around the chickens and made sure the goats were fed, I spent the day making bread, granola and pancakes for the freezer.
I would say that this was a "once in a decade" type snow. It is also colder than usual as well with 17 deg being the low this morning and we will see much lower temps during the next day or two. When the weather is like that we all stay home and work on projects and keep the home fires burning. We are all pretty much prepared for the snow with full fridges and pantries, and most of us don't plan on going anywhere for the next day or two. I asked the weavers to send me some pictures of what they are doing and or what the snow looks like at their homes. Joycelyn sent me a couple of photos from her home, Pat sent me a photo of a warp on the loom that she is working on.
Susan sent me a picture of her Chickens in the snow and a warp she is winding.
Shannon sent me a picture of a flutest in the snow flurries and some inkle weaving in progress.
Marilyn sent me a picture of an inkle band in progress for Fletcher, and Karin sent me pictures of an inkle band she is weaving for her husbands welding apron.
It wouldn't be show and Tell without Mark sharing a picture a the second scarf he wove with a wider sett than the scarf he showed us last week.
The cold weather is wide spread across the Nation, I hope that you are all warm and fed and busy with your favorite things. Tina, for all

A "School" of New Students!

We were fewer in number today than usual, and it is a good thing too, because we had a "School" of new Students come today! 4 to be exact with a 5th one that will join us next week. I took several pictures of the learning process and I thought I would just post them as they happened.
While the students were busy with the business of learning how to weave there were many other things happening! There was a loom on it's side for a little while that took a joint effort to put to rights. I caught Liz weaving in the corner, and I found several warps that were either wound or fixing to be wound once the students had finished their warps.
Then it was time for Show and Tell! Jenny came back from her cruise with some lovely trinkets as she calls them, one is crochet and the other is embroidered layers of felt with cut outs. Joycelyn was warning us about the labled bamboo kit that she had put on her warp, it was supposed to be 2 scarves and it ended up being 4 scarves and a mobious! Then Mark of course had a scarf that he had taken off the loom this week. It had ended up warp faced, so for the second one he widend the sett and he found that the fabric was much more open. Maybe we will see that next week!
Finally we took part today in a tradition that LouAnn started several years ago. Every January we read outloud to the group something that was our intention to do in the coming year. I pulled all of the slips of paper out of the jar and unfolded them to read to the group. It was surprising how many of us were able to say that we had done all or part of our goal. Some of us had a year that did not cooperate and so we were unable to complete reach our goal. Of course, one note was from Sharon and one was from LouAnn. Sharon intended to learn a new weave structure, and LouAnn intended to empty her looms this year. She didn't get a chance to do that though, but I am sure that the weavers who took over her looms have emptied them for her, I know I did. Next week, we will fill out new slips of paper with a goal or two for 2024, to open in January of 2025, and so we start the cycle all over again.
til next week, Tina for all

Happy New Year Full of Endings and Beginnings

Happy New Year everyone! We are starting the New Year off with all sorts of new things. Pearl changed the weft for her final towel. She chose a varieagated weft but stayed with the same weave structure. You know I can still see the pattern!
Liz has a new project on the mind, there is going to be a new special someone coming into her family soon!
Joycelyn has finished the never ending shawl warp and one of our new weavers is putting on a new project.
Betsy is getting ready to put a warp on the Macomber and a couple of us were giving her a hand today. The Macomber does have sectional rakes, but it is entirely possible to warp in the normal manner as long as you stay between the same outside pins as you wind on. By lunch time we were well on our way. We will finish winding on next week.
Time for Show and Tell! Pearl brought in a couple of pieces that Peggy wove for her. A couch throw and a scarf.
Carol showed us a fishy towel that Peggy had also woven.
Liz brought in a beautiful shawl that her Son and his wife brought back from their travels this year!
I brought in my latest baby blanket.
And Mark brought in some towels that he had woven on JP's loom while he was travelling this summer.
Next week there will be more of the same, projects finishing and projects starting, it is what we do! That is all until next week, Tina for all
