WWWW part 2 (AKA Tina's Butt pictures)

Saturday after lunch we gathered again for the learning part of the weekend.  Maggie continued on her quest to master the spinning wheel.

I began to impart my great knowledge of the Inkle Loom.  After all I had done it twice, so therefore I was the expert!

Ann is patiently cutting thread for her project.

Marta busy warping her loom.

After a couple of hours inside, I thought I would take a break and introduce Wally and Scout to the pool, by the time we were down we had all been in the water.  Scout seemed to enjoy it a lot more that Wally did!

By the time the evening rolled around, we were all plum tuckered out, and while Maggie and Joyce stayed overnight again, most of us headed home.

We got to work again on Sunday afternoon.  Carol is warping away on her project.

Bonnie got to join us, and she decided that she wanted to learn how to spin.  I put her to work in my new spindle wheel.

She really is getting the hang of it here!

Here Lou Ann caught me spinning some yarn for my daughter, while Bonnie watches.

Then it was time to go. The look on Maggie's face says it all.  Bella was waiting anxiously to see if she got to go home too!

We had a great time this weekend, and we are already planning a fall retreat!  I just wonder who is going to do the teaching!

Wonderfully Warped Weaving Weekend!!!

Guess what I'm doing this morning???  I'm just sitting here with coffee and great conversation....watching my friend knit (without even looking!!!) and talking about our day of weaving.  Can life be any better????

I got up this morning to a stray inkle loom at the back door...it was a mystery until Joyce came in....she had left it by the door when she came in last night.  It will join the collection (herd? mob? pod? flock? jumble? what do you call a bunch of inkles???) in the living room.
Tina has everything all ready to go....several of the looms are already loaded with cards, and she made us booklets with the patterns we'll be working on today.  This is going to be too much fun!

Dinner was so much fun last night....we had a TRUE potluck....no pre-planning.  But, we had such a spread of different things!  Tina brought goulash....Maggie roasted chickens....Marta fixed posole(with all the chile fixings)....Pat brought bread and macaroni salad....Joyce fixed fruit salad and Morman beans....and Carol, Ila, and Carl brought desserts.  QUESTION:  Who brought the yummy brownies?????

The best part was the GREAT company!!!!  It was so much fun sitting around the table with good friends and great conversation.  You would think that since we see each other once a week, that we wouldn't have that much to talk about....but it was very lively!!!!

Stay tuned to the blog for updates later today!  There are a bunch of warped weavers headed this way!!!

Happy Weaving!

This and That!

Today, I am going to make a rug out of these loopers.  I took 2 handfuls of each color and I threw them in the floor, mixed them all together and the put them in this box.  I am going to try and not pay attention to the color order, so that it can be truly haphazard.  If I finish it today I will post a pic.

Threading continues on the new loom, I had to fiddle a little with the threading so that the stripes show up where I want them to in the background of the overshot design.  I am interested to see how this effects the overall design.  I guess it will be my variation of this design.  I have ordered the parts I needed to replace on this loom, I can't wait to get her in action.

The Tuesday Weavers are having our first Weaving Weekend.  Activities have been planned that everyone can participate in.  These include, Inkle weaving, a plainweave design and a pick up design.  A taste of Tablet weaving (you can see my new Inkle looms warped and ready to go with some simple bands),  Lou Ann is going to have John ready for Tote bags.  Any one who wants to make one is to bring their own weft.  Then there is the pool and screened in porch for relaxing.  Everyone is encouraged to bring a project to work on if they want to.  I will be bringing my spinning wheel and some fleece, if anyone wants to take it for a spin.

Several of us ordered Bamboo thru Carol, she was putting in an order and asked us if we needed any.  I am ready to get started on my challenge scarf project for December.  Here is what I will be using.  I haven't quite worked out the details, but I think it will be fun.

That is all for now, I must go out and feed the critters, and walk the dogs before I can start my work day.  Have a great one, and be ready for pictures from our weekend, it looks like it is going to be fun.

First one done, second one going well!

Interesting!

I brought home the strips from the center to wash. There were several suggestions on how to wash them. One was a lingerie bag.  I did find mine from years ago. It has close pins in it. It was really too small to put the strips in. I would have to do 5 or more loads of wash to get it all done. The other suggestion was a pillow case. I got a pillow case and started stuffing. Well, the same thing. It is too small. I would have to do several loads. I decided to just load them into the washer.  They completely filled the washer up.

The warp is 4 threads every 8 inches or so with random strips for the weft. Then  you finish and cut them apart and use them as the weft in a rug. Below is a strip that we cut. It is suppose to make a chenille rug. It will go fast. You will have to watch the blog for Tuesday to see how it looks. My warp at the center is multi colored which will look very nice with this. I think? We will see.

I do like to try new things. I don't quite understand this but I am willing to try it. Something fun to do.
Have a happy week.
Bonnie
PS.  In the wash--  What a mess.

In the dryer. Yes, that is the lent screen. It is only 2 strips and that is only the lent from them. A mess everywhere. Bits and pieces of material everywhere. I have what is in the washer yet to dry. I guess 2 at a time. Hope it will make it.

It's back on!

First of all, this morning the air conditioning guys came! We now have air!!!!  We managed for the whole week plus 2 days  of our summer weather by being so careful! I have a fan aimed at my face by the loom. Keeping my lights off as much as possible kept my studio coolish. The main floor, well, let's say we bought a big box fan. Also, I would follow DH around as he turned on the lights. I would turn them off!! Guess I can let up on that for now since this evening as we walked into the house, it's nice and comfortable again! Makes me feel like working in the studio tonight! Sounds like a plan!I've been weaving as much as possible lately. The warp of the 3 colors, sea blue, white and turquoise came off a few days ago. Actually, I forgot to take a picture of it before I cut it off. Remembering as it lay on below the cloth beam, I just let it sit there until I took the picture. It's not been washed or even serged yet, but maybe tomorrow. I'm still weaving the sea blue one. Have you ever had a warp that just went on really nicely, smoothly, with very few knots? Then, weaving it, it just wove like a dream? Well, that's what this warp is like. It's weaving really fast. I should get it off in the morning. You can really develop a nice rhythm when it all works like it's supposed to!
These 2 warps are going to be made into clothing, jackets, tops, vests and even a dress in there. Won't it be neat, a sea blue dress with a vest of the sea blue, white and turquoise? At least that's my vision of it all. We'll see how it works out and how the response will be at the craft fair in July.
We've still got appointments with DD and the physical therapy which puts a huge cramp in my weaving time. However, she's improving each day. Still on two crutches, she's making great progress and they're happy with how she's doing. Hopefully in a week or so she'll go down to one crutch. We can hear her from way down the hall because these crutches have an interesting sound, almost like music! She can't wait to be able to sneak up on us again! Makes me appreciate my knees and how they function!

It's Tuesday!

A bedskirt became weft today!  We often get donations of fabric (which comes in the form of flat folds, clothes, curtains or bed linens) and that is cut up for weft for placemats and rugs.  Carol took apart a bedskirt that is getting a new life at one of the looms!  That's a lot of usable fabric!

Weaving is going on all over the place!  Ms. Bonnie is threading the new warp at the refurbished Hammett loom, and Pat and Ann are making short work of their placemat warps.

Maggie was busy with her linen warp.  She brought her spray bottle of water just in case the linen got too fussy.  She got the whole warp threaded before she left today!  Yeah!

Bonnie cheered Maggie on by reminding her to hold her "mouth just right" as she threaded!

Bonnie finished her own threading and  cut the rest of the strips for the caterpillar rugs.  Oh my!  That made a mighty mess!!!!!

Tina got out the vacuum to get all the debris off the floor.

Sharen brought her rug that she wove from the mop cord she bought at R&M Yarns.  She got that project done very quickly!!!

Tina rounded up the inkle looms and small spools of carpet warp to use for our Weaving Retreat this weekend.

We've got lots of weaving planned, and we'll be able to try our hand at lots of different types of weaving!  It should be fun.
Happy Weaving!

Thank you, Blog!

A few weeks ago, one of my fellow bloggers said they were grateful to the blog for making her work on her weaving.  I have to say that the blog is the only reason I finished these place mats today!  I have had an incredibly long, difficult week, and really wanted to just take several naps today, but the blog loomed over me!  Was that a pun?
And there are 16 place mats, not 15, as well as a runner and a... what exactly is that weird rectangle?  I started them this morning, but had a lot of trouble focusing.  There were so many of them!  It was so tedious!  And it's my day off!  Do I really have to do this?  But, yes, the answer was yes, I had to finish them.
I did a few and called Mom to see if she wanted to go to lunch.  We tried out the newly restored S & W Grand Cafe downtown, which turned out to be quite good!  And then, we had to have gelato, three doors down.  And we had to walk around downtown, even though it was hot, hot, hot, while we ate our gelato.
I finally got home at 3:00, and zipped through the rest of the place mats.  Somehow, mysteriously enough, they have an awful lot of cat hair on them, and will need one more spin through the washing machine and dryer.  Tomorrow, they'll make the trip to Norris and go up to the store for sale.
And then, it's on to the linen warp!  I'll bring my spray bottle of water and get down to the business of threading.  Until then, Happy Weaving!
Maggie
