Bye-bye, February!

Dayle thought that her Rigid Heddle would be all she wanted, but after watching all other weavers, she decided to dip her toe into 4 shaft weaving.  This will be her learning warp.

Phyllis caught the bug, too.  Here she is winding the warp for her first project.  They will weave some plain weave and four different twills.  They will weave a table runner using their favorite structure at the end.

Karin is taking over the dyed warp.  She's going to try out that bright pink for weft.

Candace is working on her second warp.

Donna and Judy are comparing notes.

Patty is helping Linda wind on her warp..it goes so much faster with a little help.

Shirley is threading the reed on her placemat warp.

A picture to behold:  a whole row of weavers just doing what they do.

Barbara has been weaving rag placemats, but this ball of fabric needed to be split in half.  So...have a seat and chat with Pat and you'll end up with two balls of weft!

Carol and Jayne were having a color theory lesson.

We had a generous donation of upholstery fabric, and Jayne wanted to make some pillows.

Candace and Donna kept weaving throughout all the chatter!

Pearl came in after lunch and got right to her loom.  She's ready to weave!

Patty has been working on her inventory for upcoming shows.  She brought her black and white towels for us to see.  She also got two hot pads from the leftover fabric.

Betsy has finished her six bowl cozies for the challenge.  Guess I'd better get busy!!!

Happy Weaving!

Ready for Spring!!!

Can you believe it..we are almost through February!  As weavers, we are already talking about the Spring shows.  And there are two fiber events happening in April:  Southeast Fiber Forum on April 16-19 at Arrowmont in Gatlinburg.  There in another even on April 21-22 at the Heritage Center in Townsend, TN.  The Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Fair will have classes and a host of vendors.  We have to get ready!!!

Karin is doing her part by warping more scarf blanks.  These will be dyed and sold as a kit.

These ladies are busy deciding on weft and yardage.

This is the sheer joy of cutting off a scarf warp!!!

Carol is kept busy mentoring our new weavers.

Sometimes it requires inspecting a loom someone has brought.

Pat continues weaving on this colorful rug.  I love how the pattern pops up as she weaves.

At home, Pat has been busy using up her "stash".

Dayle has also been busy at home.  She used her rigid heddle loom to weave  gamp!!!

It was a busy day at the Studio!  Lots to see!

Happy Weaving

We're Famous!!!

Have you gotten your March-April Handwoven yet?
Well....turn to page 16 and there's a great article about our little weaving community!
You might recognize some of the faces.  We are already getting emails about possible visits to the Center.  If YOU come, remember we are here on Tuesdays!

The article was written by our own Pat Bing.  When she's not weaving beautiful rugs, she writes great articles!

This is three of our new weavers:  Jayne, Phyllis and Kathy.  (The other ones were on the other side of the table.)  Marie is working on the books while there was a lull in the activities.

We were happy to see Charlotte today.  She's been weaving samples of different structures, and brought them for Carol to see.  It's always fun to see her use of color and patterns.

Shirley, Marily, Lou Ann and Shari were busy threading and weaving.  Since Candace wasn't here today, Shari just started threading the shawl warp.

Patty and Linda pitched in to help Carol tag the items going upstairs.  We have a lot of inventory we haven't tagged yet!

As you can see, Carol has quite a stack of items to get ready for the shop.

Liz just realized that she skipped a dent when she sleyed the reed.  But, it's pretty close to the right side--easy fix.

Shirley had crossed heddles, but we fixed that, too!

Laura is working on a table runner to go with her placemats.  She's got tapes everywhere to mark where the stripes will be!

We're all heart!!!  We celebrated Valentine's Day in style!  We started grazing early so that by lunchtime, most folks just skipped their lunch they brought.  (Except Betsy:  she ate her salad like a good girl!)

Meg asked us what a bowl cozy looked like and I thought I'd include this picture.  It's a fabric cozy for bowls to use in the microwave.  You can pick up the hot bowl by the ears, which saves your fingers. You have to use 100% cotton for this project, which is right down our alley!  Look on YouTube for patterns and ideas.

What a LOVEly day!

TW Challenge for 2023

Every once in a while, we create a challenge for our weavers.  This year we are weaving fabric for bowl cozies to sell in the shop and at shows.

We went over some the particulars last week, and we did another preview today.  WELL....Patty couldn't wait!  She has already woven her cozies and sewed them together.

Tina started her warp, too.  This is her sample:  she calls it Spring!!!

The weavers by the door got hot, so they opened the door for some fresh air.  Then they got right back to work!

Shari is helping Candace warp her loom, but the break won't hold!!!!  Marie to the rescue with a big wrench.

Then Marie was off to help Phyllis with her warp.

Patty is looking over the bowl cozies that we have so far.

Betsy is at the end of the second blanket.  Now what color for the weft?

Sharon is trying to get this scarf warp finished!!!!

Carol checked in on Shari and Candace to see how the shawl warp was doing.

Carol checked in on Kathy and Donna.  (Donna brought her own table loom.)

Laura is starting a new placemat.  The red fabric that she is using is a red-checked tablecloth.

Linda is playing loom chicken!!!  There were several short bouts of thread!  Now, what do you think she'll do with the longer bouts????

I hope your week is lovely!

Happy Weaving!
