Distractions!

I think we're all ready for spring! I know I am. Problem is, in a week or so I'm flying up to Moose Jaw, SK to visit family. Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire! They still have winter up there and will for a couple of more months!!! 

Down here, tho, spring is starting. Our lenten roses are very happy and blooming like crazy. We had a colder winter than normal so some things are slower. I haven't seen a snowdrop yet in our yard and they normally start blooming in January, sometimes even in December already. No crocuses yet either. A few daffodils are popping up in the neighborhood but I didnt see any in our yard.

On the weaving front, I finished my white warp. I didn't take a picture of it because it was pretty boring! Now I'm almost done this warp which looks darker than it is. The warp is mostly white but towards the center there's some natural warp and then that accent yarn in the middle. The weft is all white. It'll make some nice tops and vests!

I'm not getting as much done as I"d like right now. I guess there are a few distractions taking my time. What I love more than anything is to be able to go downstairs and just weave all morning. I only weave about 3 hours a day but you can get alot done in that time. The rest of the time there's warps to wind, handwovens to serge and assemble. Days where I don't have to do anything else are few and far between but I grab them when I can!
I got my 8 harness 24" ashford table loom in the mail yesterday!! It's in a small box and will have to be assembled. That'll be a fun job I hope to do this weekend. I had to get it for a class I'm taking at MidWest Weavers Conference in Michigan in June. I really believe in going to conferences. You always get inspired and learn from the instructors, but also from your fellow classmates. The vendors tempt you and I've been known to fly to a conference with an empty suitcase to bring things back in. Of couse that was years ago before flying became too much of a  pain! I'm driving up to Michigan. It's just over 1000 miles. That way I can bring back what I want and not worry about being at the airport on time. If you enjoy weaving, I highly recommend going to the conference. I've been to alot over the years and haven't been disappointed yet!

After all the torrential rain we had here Monday (and I had alot less than most of the other Tuesday weavers because I live a bit south of the storm center), it's great that today we have a clear blue sky, lots of sun and, altho it's a bit chilly, it still looks like it's going to be a pretty day. Rats, I'll probably just have to go out for awhile. Those distractions....
