I was so miffed that the Teal handspun took me 2 years to do, mostly because I wasn't spinning very much. I know I have a lot of stuff in my world, but really, I like spinning, I like how relaxing it is and how beautiful the results are, so why in the world did it take me so long to finish it! I thought of a couple of things:
1. I wasn't sure about my technique since I hadn't handled "Top" at all.
2. I wasn't sure how to handle all those colors either. I had always done single colored roving or at most something heathered, where everything just took care of itself.
3. I always get it in my head that since I spin so rarely, I need to do hours of spinning when I can.
To combat my default setting, I have decided to measure out 4 to 6oz. of roving each day. Prepare it by running it thru the drum carder twice.
I then will split that batt in to two pieces.
I will then roll those two pieces into Rolags, which is my prefered presentation of fiber.
I will then spin those 4 oz., and those 4 oz only.
This is 3 days of spinning, I missed last night because of fatigue. I have my rolags by the spinning wheel, and since it only takes about 20 minutes to spin it up, I can do it while we watch the news at night, and before you know it I will have enough to make a good sized skein.
In fact after I do todays 4 oz, that will be 16 oz. total on this bobbin. ( I love my new postal scale, now I know exactly how much is on the bobbin!) I will then switch bobbins and do 16 oz on a new one, then ply them together! I don't have to do enormus skeins! I don't know why I thought I had to! I often find myself working against productivity in this way. Putting the bar so high that I just block and then get nothing done.
That is all for now, Until next time, Happy Weaving, Tina

So....which wheel did you do the spinning on???? I think you have the right idea, though. Set a goal amount daily (like weaving 1 hour) and it isn't so overwhelming. And, you end up getting a bunch done!!!
That sounds like a plan. Sometimes we tend to blow things up real big in our minds. Sounds like you had a snap back to reality. Welcome back.(I hope to join you soon).
Great plan! I really need a little postal scale. Thanks for the nudge.
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. You can do anything if you just break it into managable pieces. Excellent plan you have!
