One Warp a Winding, Two Warps cut off, Three Warps Dressing

The crisp spring morning was a welcome refreshment after a couple of toasty afternoons, and the perfect day to come to the Appalachian Arts Craft Center to get together with the other Tuesday Weavers! Another busy day in the studio today. We had projects starting, in progress and finishing! Shirley is winding 1/2 of a warp and rather that leave it on the warping board she will chain it off today and wind the other half the next time.

Two warps were cut off today, one was Jenny's warp, this is fabric for wraps. Next is Betsy with a towel warp.

Three warps being dressed. First JP has begun to pull his warp through the reed. (remember this was what JP calls a warp from H E double hocky sticks a couple of weeks ago!) and Rhonda and I got her towel warp onto the back beam today! It always makes me smile to see a fresh warp on the back beam all lovely and straight, no matter how much of a pain it was to get it there!!! The third project that is going onto a loom is one that Linda finished threading today but I didn't get any pictures of that one.

Liz #1 had to leave early today but I managed to get a picture of her and her towel project! I asked her what the pattern is and she said "Squares".

Now it is time for "Show and Tell", and have we got some!!! Laura and I have been working on 2 seperate commission pieces and we just happened to finish and bring them in on the same day!!!! Laura finished a special order of 6 placemats and 1 very long runner in Ellen's pattern and I finished a special order of 8 placemats and 1 runner in a Barley Corn pattern called "Rose Point".

Susan #3 brought in her "Dye day" project to show off, Patty brought in a Baby Blanket that she had made out of "Cotton Sprout" by Premier. It is so much softer than what we normally use! More than one weaver took a picture of the yarn lable! Mark brought in a rug that he had woven for Judith on the "Sisters" warp he has been weaving off of for awhile.

Empty Barn Frame Loom and Dye Day Pictures!

As I arrived this morning, I noticed that the warp on the Barn frame loom was almost done, so I snapped a few pictures and was assuming that I would notice when Pat was cutting the warp off! However, Pat was already rolling the rug warp before I saw what was happening! There are 7 rugs in all and we are estimating that the warp was 15yards or so.

Mark and Judith are on the job! Mark is weaving placemats with checked fabric and Judith is weaving rugs on the Studio loom. I couldn't help noticing once again that on the rug loom one shed is warm colors and one is cool colors.

Karin wore many hats today, she helped me get the last of the dyed warps and wefts rinsed, she helped Marie get tags on the inventory that was ready to go upstairs and she and Mark helped me get the last of the Dorothy looms off of an upper shelf so that I could take it to the annex.

Now friends it is time for "Show and Tell"! Linda stole the show today, she saw and article in the latest Handwoven about using beads when you weave Leno Lace and she had to try it! She made a warp and did a sample scarf. Marie really had to break up the party that was happening around that scarf cause there was still a lot of show and tell to go!

Dana brought in the warp that her son had dyed on the last dye day and she had dyed the weft!

Kris too brought in ice dyed shirts and napkins that she had dyed as well and Jenny brought in the skeins of yarn that she had bucket dyed.

Shannon made a cute pillow from some fabric she had woven and Mark had another rug from his multi colored warp to show us!

Dye Day Rinse Day and Ellen's Pattern Everywhere!

Last week on Thursday and Friday there was a Dye Day and several weavers were there and some brought there own things to be dyed. They did the usual dyeing and also some ice dyeing! Today there were 3 weft skeins and 2 warp skeins that needed to be rinsed today. I put them to soak right away, and after the first soak I began to use the spin dryer to speed things up. By the end of the day 2 of the weft skeins were fully rinsed but the last weft skein and the 2 warp skeins still needed another rinse and we were all ready to call it a day.

There were several piles of finished articles on the table this morning, and among them were a couple of sets of placemats in our signature "Ellen's Pattern". That got me looking around the room and wouldn't you know it there were several weavers working on this same pattern but there were no two alike! Laura it working on a custom order, Susan is working on a color that I had never seen used before, but I think it is marvelous!

Kris is using a deep green as her warp.

Just before lunch Linda told me that she was ready to cut off her latest project.

It is time for "Show and Tell"! Susan and Rhonda showed us the finished placemats they had brought back ready to be inventoried and put upstairs in the shop.

Shannon brought in so many small purses that she has made with our leftover fabric that it was impossible to get pictures of them all. She is an amazing seamstress!

Roxy brought in her finished student project, I love her color choices, and Mark brought in another rug that he had finished!

Next week I will have some pictures of the Dye Day skeins and warps plus some of the projects that were done for individuals. Until then, this is Tina, for all!
